Time’s suspension, The cares of a family man and Sucking Stones
An Unfamiliar Experience (Making drawings from texts)
Second week (Friday, 4 October, 2024)
Our class started at 10 in the morning. Oren, Belinda, and Rachael created a friendly atmosphere for students to become familiar with each other and students had to memorized each other's names. There were nearly 40 of us from all around the world, from Ukraine to India, Iran, Egypt, Sudan, Germany, Pakistan, and England. Tutors and artists Heinrich & Palmer talked about Fratton and some students had a presentation of their work named WE SHINE.
On 4th October, 2024, I experience something completely new, something that I had never experienced before. Belinda asked us to close our eyes and imagine the air, breathing, our classmates sitting next to us, the sounds around us, and.... Then the introduction to a book called Enduring Time was read by students and we were asked to start to draw whatever we want by some medium provided for us.
Although in the text, there were lots of words which I had never heard about, I was struggling to understand the text and thinking about what I was going to draw, but Oren said to me: SAM JUST DRAW...
The cares of a family man & Sucking Stones
For our first studio session on October 4th,We were supposed to read two texts (The cares of a family man (Odradek), by Franz Kafka and Sucking Stones (an excerpt) from Samuel Beckett's Molloy), and then make two drawings which transduce the rhythms and patterns of the text, using any medium on white A3 paper.
To transduce: to convert something, such as energy or a message into another form.
Frist I tried to resonate with the text and look up unfamiliar word and then started to draw what I was not familiar with. During my drawing Sometimes I became disappointed and other times I took an interest in what I was drawing.
It was something totally new I did not know exactly what it would be, but I trusted my tutors... 💓
